What is a mommy makeover?
A mommy makeover is a term used to describe a combination approach to address the changes that pregnancy and breastfeeding bring to a mother’s body. This is not a one-size-fits-all solution but a customized plan David M. Godat, MD, creates to suit your specific set of needs and goals.

When’s the right time for a mommy makeover?
Timing is an important part of deciding to move forward with a mommy makeover. If you’re planning to have another child soon or are still breastfeeding, it may be better to wait until after you’ve had your last child.
That said, there are some plastic surgery procedures that can be done even before you’ve completed your family. Speak with Dr. Godat about your options.
Another aspect of timing involves having enough help after your surgery. There will be a brief period of time when you won’t be able to drive, and you’ll need help around the house for a week or so as your body begins the healing process.
That’s especially true if you have babies or small children at home. There will be lifting restrictions for a few weeks after a mommy makeover, and that includes lifting your kids.
How can I improve healing after a mommy makeover?
Healing is a very individualized matter and depends in large part on your overall health. Smokers may not be good candidates for a mommy makeover, as smoking causes circulatory problems and slows wound healing. Quitting a few weeks prior to your procedure can make a world of difference in your healing process.
You can also boost your healing by following Dr. Godat’s recovery instructions. Don’t return to normal activity levels until your body has had a chance to recover, and take things easy at first. Embracing a healthy diet is also a great way to boost healing.

Dr Godat is a very caring and straight forward doctor who goes straight by the book and he does everything that he suppose to do not cutting any corners and he will let you know the do’s and the don’ts and he is very strict on what he tells you about the operation and everything I would recommend him to anyone and mrs christine is right there helping him all the time . Went in expecting a possible run around because I didn’t know if I lost enough weight but the staff was completely welcoming and human and helped me to see things I couldn’t see on my own and I could get help for skin removal. Dr Godat walked in and cemented that feeling. He listened to my history and weight loss stats and told me I did just enough and I was a great candidate for surgery. My surgery date was set and 3 weeks later I had my tummy tuck. The after care was excellent and easy. I thank God for Dr. Godat and his staff!!!! Please call him! He won’t give up on you!
I had a Duodenal Switch in October of 2017 and since that time had gone from 389# to 235# which left me with and abundance of hanging skin. The weight lost actually increased my back pain due from my herniated disks due to the lack of “padding” as well as the added stress from the hanging skin. Once I was finally approved for the skin removal and abdominoplasty last December, The process was very quick. I had my first appointment on Dec 3rd, preop on Dec 9th and surgery on Dec 12th. Everything went great. I had and issue with one area of abdomen not healing properly ending up in the need for wound care for it to totally heal. The results have been AWESOME. I am now having very little back pain have lost another 20# (down to 215#) and 6 more inches from my waistline (44 inch waist before skin removal and now 38). Dr. Godat and his staff have been truly amazing thru this whole process.

Before going to Dr. Godat I had two previous breast surgeries, a lift and implant replacement. Both of them after so many years started to “sag” again. They were heavy and my bra straps began to dig into my shoulders. I learned about the internal bra surgery and made my appt with Dr. Godat. He and his nurses explained the whole procedure and this was exactly what I was looking for! Fast forward to today, almost 9 months after the procedure I wish I would had known about this the first time and didn’t waste the time, money or pain on the previous two procedures. The procedures done under Mommy Makeover can vary depending on your unique needs and problems. But a typical mommy makeover eliminates the visible side effects of childbirth, mostly found around the breast and waistline area.
Many new moms prefer to restore the fullness of their breasts through surgeries like breast implants or fat transfer. Some also include breast lifts to make their breasts look even better and more prominent to achieve better results.
As for the waistline area, moms generally reach out to us to discuss removing the unwanted loosen skin around their abdomen. In turn, we suggest our tummy tuck along with our liposuction procedure.
For other specific childbirth side effects and concerns, other surgical options can be added to the Mommy Makeover, such as a facelift, skin tightening, and more.

Like any surgery, there are some risks associated with these procedures. The most important thing you can do to limit those risks is to choose a qualified plastic surgeon who understands the benefits and risks of combined procedures. At Godat Plastic Surgery, you will be under the care of a skilled plastic surgeon with over 25 years of experience. If you decide to combine different surgeries, you will benefit from one recovery period, reduced exposure to anesthesia, and lower operating room costs.
Recovery time can vary depending on the number of operations done, but a good rule of thumb is to plan at least a 10 to 14-day recovery. During this time, you should expect to rest and not go to work or do your usual activities. It will take approximately six months to see the full results of your mommy makeover.
For optimal results, you should wait at least several months after childbirth or once your body returns to your average stable weight again (near your weight before you got pregnant) for procedures like the mommy makeover.
Undergoing a mommy makeover will not affect your ability to conceive. However, with that said, we highly suggest you only undergo a mommy makeover if you are confident that you don’t have a plan to get pregnant in the next 2-3 years.
